Luckily, suffering from the nasty allergic reaction brought about by the said plants need not mess up your summer time for long. With the help of the following home remedies, you can attain relief and get back into action in no time:

Medicated Body Powder and Rubbing Alcohol

After thoroughly washing and drying the affected area, liberally apply rubbing alcohol on it. Immediately dump medicated body powder on it until the irritated spot is entirely covered with it. Wrap the area with gauze and wait for this all-natural solution to carry out its job.

Vodka or Gin

In case a bottle of rubbing alcohol is nowhere to be found, see if you can spot a bottle of vodka or gin instead. Basically, a high-proof alcoholic drink works just like rubbing alcohol in providing instant relief from skin irritation. Vinegar is another alternative to rubbing alcohol, courtesy of its natural antibacterial properties.

Black Coffee

Douse the affected area in black coffee in case you cannot get your hands on a bottle of rubbing alcohol, vodka, gin or vinegar. Coffee has mild anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritation and itchiness caused by getting into contact with poison ivy or poison oak. Just make sure that your black coffee is allowed to cool to room temperature first!

Raw Oatmeal or Potato Paste

Grind raw steel-cut oatmeal and add a few drops of water in order to create a paste. Apply it liberally onto skin areas with those itchy poison ivy or poison oak rashes. You may also peel a small piece of potato, slice it thinly and throw everything in the blender to come up with a paste you may apply. Both potato and oatmeal help soothe itchy and irritated skin.

Banana Peel

In case all the other home remedies mentioned above are not available, grab a banana and peel it. All you have to do is gently rub the inside of the peel on the affected area. While you are waiting for some relief to kick in, munch on the banana in order to energize your body and replace electrolytes lost through sweating.

If possible, immediately wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water before using any one of the home remedies discussed above. The quicker you spring into action, the faster the relief will come.
