Inner Thigh Darkening: Causes and Home Remedies

Having dark inner thighs can keep you from sporting a bikini, miniskirt or pair of shorts. It is particularly noticeable and downright embarrassing if you have fair complexion. There several different reasons why the inner thighs end up dark, and there are also a number of home remedies that can help improve the cosmetic problem.

Before we take a look at some of those home remedies, let us first spend some of our time discussing some of the most common reasons behind those dark inner thighs.

Friction is something that can make the skin end up dark. It is usually brought about by having excess weight. Sometimes it is due to a woman’s fondness of wearing really tight garments. Needless to say, getting rid of excess pounds and opting for loose-fitting clothes can help keep the skin issue from worsening.

Shaving can also leave the inner thighs looking horrid, especially when dull razors are used. Likewise, the use of personal care products with drying and irritating chemicals in them can cause the problem to strike.

In some women, the darkening of the inner thighs is brought about by hormonal imbalance. Such fluctuation in the body’s chemicals usually strikes during menstruation and pregnancy. The good news is the problem tends to improve without any outside intervention as the hormone levels return to normal.

There are instances, too, when the darkening of the inner thighs is due to certain medical conditions. For instance, women may suffer from the said issue if they have the likes of polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS, diabetes and acanthosis nigricans, which is a condition characterized by excessive skin pigmentation. Do take note that the said medical problems may also cause other areas of the body to end up darker, not just the inner thighs.

Certain medications such as oral contraceptives may also leave the inner thighs darker. Asking the doctor for alternative drugs can help ward off such unfavorable and embarrassing side effect.

Needless to say, addressing the medical condition or taking a different drug associated with inner thigh darkening can put an end to the problem. For other causes such as friction, shaving and the use of the wrong personal care products, the following are some of the most effective solutions:

Lemon Juice and Coconut Oil

Extract the juice of half a lemon and mix it with 3 teaspoons of coconut oil. Massage on problem areas for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Moisturize with a little olive oil afterwards.

Honey and Brown Sugar

Exfoliate the area with equal amounts of honey and brown sugar to help remove dead skin cells. Remember to massage the resulting paste really gently and rinse off with lukewarm water afterwards. Never do it more than twice a week.

Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar

Another homemade exfoliating agent you may use is the combination of baking soda and a few drops of apple cider vinegar. Gently massage on the inner thighs using circular motions. Wash off with water thoroughly.

Milk, Almond Oil and Honey

Combine equal amounts of milk, almond oil and honey. Apply on the inner thighs and let the mixture stay there for up to 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. This solution lightens and nourishes affected skin.

Honey with Potato and Tomato Juice

Potato and tomato juice have skin lightening properties. Honey, on the other hand, soothes the skin. Mix equal amounts of potato and tomato juice. Add a few drops of honey. Leave on problem areas for 5 minutes and wash off.

Aloe Vera Gel and Almond Oil

Thanks to its vitamin E content, aloe vera gel can help get rid of the issue. Mix a few drops of almond oil with aloe vera gel, and then massage on those embarrassing spots. Leave it there or rinse it off if you don’t like the sticky feeling.
