Adrian Martineau, a professor at Queen Mary University of London and the lead author of a research on flare-ups said that the simple and inexpensive supplement that helps patients with Vitamin D deficiency will help the public in a big way.

The impact of the deficiency in Vitamin D has been confirmed in this recent research. The severity and the duration of COPD symptoms had been observed.

The clinical trial involved 240 COPD patients in and around London. Half of them received Vitamin D supplements and the rest received a placebo.

As a result, the Vitamin D deficient patients have benefited significantly from the supplements. It was observed however that among the patients with a higher Vitamin D levels did not experience a significant reduction with the flare-ups.

The Vitamin D group experienced a modest reduction in the duration of the flare up symptoms and their severity after taking up the supplements. As a conclusion, they have recommended patients with COPD to be tested with their Vitamin D levels. If a patient is found to be deficient in Vitamin D, it is advised to take supplements right away.

Vitamin D enhances the absorption of the calcium. It also helps in the management of the growth of cells and the improvement of the immune system plus the effective reduction of the inflammation.

In case of Vitamin D deficiency, take good note of the food you eat. Make sure that your diet consists of a steady amount of Vitamin D. It is best to consult your doctor with the right kind of supplement for you.
