Pregnant women often feel spoiled with the care and attention that their partners and families are giving them. This isn’t surprising as growing a baby inside your womb is going to be the toughest thing that you’re going to do because you are caring for two people in just one body. As much as you would like your pregnancy to be smooth sailing, there are times when you’ll feel uncomfortable. This is not surprising as you might be making some mistakes, especially with your eating habits, that make you feel out of sorts. Which mistakes are these? Relying on supplements

Most pregnant women rely on prenatal supplements to get the nourishment that they need. This is not surprising as we often find ourselves deficient in certain vitamins and minerals when we go for a check-up. With that being said, our body cannot exactly absorb all the nutritional content of these supplements, they only end up getting flushed from our system. Also, too much vitamins can also have some side effects. A better option would be to supplement it with proper whole foods that are rich in folate, iron, calcium, as well as vitamin D.

Consuming foods for two

Just because you are pregnant, it doesn’t mean that you should literally eat for two adults. Normally, your calorie intake per day should be around 1800 to 2000 calories. Since you are pregnant, you only need to add around 300 calories and nothing more. Bingeing on food because you are pregnant is not advisable as this can cause pregnancy issues in the long run.

Missing out on nutrient dense foods

Following a healthy diet is all well and good, but sometimes you need to up your intake of certain foods to meet the required amount per day. It is important that you do your research on which foods are nutrient dense so you can integrate them into your pregnancy diet easily. You will need to add one to two servings of these foods to your diet to make your pregnancy successful.

Lack of sleep

You’re probably rushing to get everything done before the little one appears but since it will take nine months before you see your baby, it is important that you give your body the rest it needs. Lack of sleep can hurt you more than you expect because there is pregnancy fatigue that you need to take into account. It’s time to put that extra hour of sleep if you tend to sleep around five to six hours a day only.

Not giving in to your comfort foods

A lot of pregnant women avoid comfort foods like the plague when they are pregnant because they are worried about its effects to their baby. But there is nothing wrong with eating chocolates, cakes, or anything that you are craving as long as you eat in moderation. If you are not sure you can keep your intake down, have someone to help monitor your intake.

Picky eating

Now is not the time to be a picky eater especially when it comes to healthy food. Just because you don’t like eating your greens, it doesn’t mean that you should turn your nose up against it.
