Causes of Wrinkles That are Not Related to Aging

It’s true that the process of aging can cause wrinkles to strike — the production of collagen wanes as the years pass by, causing the skin to become loose and saggy.

But did you know that there are many other causes of wrinkles aside from aging?

Eating Sugary Stuff

We all know that one of the many problems that can happen if you consume foods that have a lot of sugar in them is weight gain. Are you aware that anything sugary can also cause wrinkles?

According to scientists, once sugar is in the body it binds with various types of proteins.

Some of those proteins are elastin and collagen, and both of them are structural components of the skin. With the amount of elastin and collagen diminished, skin becomes prone to wrinkle development.

Make sure that you considerably limit the intake of sugary foods to prevent wrinkles and many other problems.

Cigarette Smoking

Thousands and thousands of toxins that are introduced to your body each time you light up a cigarette stick.

Many of those poisonous substances that you inhale cause damage to the blood vessels, such as those that provide oxygen- and nutrient-containing blood to the skin.

Once circulation to the skin is hampered, the skin can end up damaged as evidenced by the formation of wrinkles.

If you want to look young, quit cigarette smoking. Do the same if you don’t want to die young — smoking is linked to a number of health problems, all of which are very, very serious ones!

Too Much Sun

We do need sun because it’s an excellent source of vitamin D. However, it’s important to limit your exposure to it because it can also increase your risk of skin cancer and premature aging.

Some of the many different premature aging signs of the skin are fine lines and wrinkles.

Especially in between 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon, do your best to steer clear of the sun. If you cannot stay indoors during those times, use sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or more.

It’s also a good idea to refrain from using tanning beds and lamps as they’re just smaller versions of the sun.

Exposure to Pollution

Are you living in the heart of the city? Then chances are that in a few years’ time you will have more wrinkles than someone your age but living in the countryside.

Skin experts say that regular contact with polluted air can accelerate the aging of the skin.

If leaving the city behind is not possible, see to it that you deep clean your skin especially at night before you hop into bed to get rid of pollutants that can cause skin damage.

Also, avoid using makeup and other cosmetic products that contain harsh ingredients. As much as possible, opt for those that are all-natural, organic and non-hypoallergenic.

Lots of Stress

Pollution is not the only wrinkle-causing aspect of living in the city, but also stress. If you are leading a very stressful everyday life, it’s not unlikely for you to end up looking several years older than your age!

In this day and age, no one can dodge stress. However, it’s possible to limit the amount of stressors.

Look for ways to have your high levels of stress reduced. There are so many of them around — from doing yoga, having a massage to listening to music.

Also, get your regular dose of exercise and eat healthy foods to have your body safeguarded from stress.

Not Enough Sleep

Stress can cause so many issues, and one of them is insomnia. Did you know that another cause of wrinkles that is not related to aging is failure to get a good night’s sleep?

If you are stressed and an insomniac, your skin is in grave danger!

By dealing with stress, insomnia will go away on its own. You may also try some all-natural remedies for insomnia such as the intake of chamomile tea or tart cherry juice, or the use of essential oils with relaxing properties.

There are many other causes of insomnia aside from stress, such as certain medical conditions. It’s a good idea for you to seek the help of a doctor in identifying the cause.
