Effective Home Remedies for Ear Infection

Listen up — ear infection is something that should be taken seriously. Although rare, there are some complications associated with it. The problem is said to be more common in kids than adults. No matter the case, it is important to consult a doctor. This is especially true if the infection is found in the inner ear which is very serious as it can lead to some severe complications!

For mild to moderate cases of ear infection, there are a few home remedies that you may consider. What’s so nice about these all-natural solutions is they do not involve the intake of antibiotics. It is common knowledge that antibiotics can cause certain side effects like stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea, rash and hives.

Garlic

This herb not only makes all sorts of dishes savory, but it can also help cure ear infection. Crush 2 garlic cloves and cook them in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil such as sesame oil and mustard oil. Afterwards, allow the oil to cool for a while. When the heat is already tolerable, place a few drops of the oil in the affected ear. Drain after a few minutes.

Onions

Another popular cooking ingredient that may be used for attaining relief from ear infection is onion. Simply chop up a small onion and heat in the microwave for a few seconds. Allow to cool and use a small piece of cloth to extract the juice. Place 2 to 3 drops of it in the infected ear. Drain after a few minutes by tilting your head to the opposite direction.

Apple Cider Vinegar

There are many listings of home remedies for various maladies, and majority of them will surely mention apple cider vinegar. This versatile sour liquid may be used to treat ear infection. Simply mix equal amounts of it with water. Get a small cotton ball, soak it in the mixture, and place on the affected ear for a few minutes.

Olive Oil

Especially if the problem is brought about by earwax buildup, olive oil may be used to attain healing. All you have to do is warm some of it for a few seconds in the microwave. You simply have to dilute 3 drops of tea tree oil in a tablespoon of olive oil. Instill a few drops of the resulting mixture in the infected ear. Let it stay there for several minutes before allowing the mixture to drain.

Breast Milk

Believe it or not, you may place a few drops of breast milk in the infected ear. Breast milk is capable of killing off bacteria as well as providing relief from the symptoms of ear infection. That is why you may consider yourself fortunate if you know a nursing mom or you yourself just gave birth to your little bundle of joy!
