It’s not uncommon for you to feel some pain and discomfort the first time you wear dentures, or also known as false teeth or dental plate. But worry not because there are some tried-and-tested home remedies for denture pain that you may try, to make your first few days or weeks of wearing dentures more bearable.

Rinse Your Mouth with Lukewarm Salt Water

Having a salt water rinse is an effective all-natural remedy for all sorts of oral problems, including denture pain. To attain immediate relief, dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of water that’s lukewarm. Remove your dentures and gargle with it. Allow the salt water to stay in your mouth for a few seconds before spitting it out.

Apply Ground Cloves with Olive Oil

Clove is an aromatic herb that’s commonly added to a lot of savory and sweet dishes. It’s also something that you may count on if you are bugged by denture pain, thanks to its eugenol content that boasts of both anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. All you have to do is mix 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves with a few drops of olive oil. Apply the resulting paste on painful and swollen part of your gums. After 5 minutes, rinse your mouth with lukewarm water.

Massage Your Gums with Turmeric Paste

Break off an aloe vera leaf and apply on gum areas that are painful and swollen. Do your best to let it stay in place for about 10 minutes, and then rinse it off with water. Do this up to thrice a day.

Black tea is packed with tannic acid, which is very good at easing gum pain and swelling. What you need to do is allow a bag of it to soak in hot water for a couple of minutes. Once the water is at room temperature, strain and gargle with it. Similarly, you may chew some crushed fresh sage leaves without your dentures on. Do this 2 to 3 times daily.

Place a Slice of Fig in Your Mouth

When you have denture pain just when figs are in season, you’re in luck. That’s because figs are very good at easing painful and swollen gums. All you have to do is place a slice of fresh fig in your mouth, making sure that the fleshy and juicy part is touching the affected gum areas. It’s a good idea to let it stay in place for several minutes.

These are some of the most effective home remedies for denture pain that you may try. Remember to regularly clean your dentures with mild soap, water and a hand brush to ward off an infection. Also, remove your dentures before going to bed to allow your gums to have some much-needed rest.
