Heat exhaustion or heat stroke can happen to us whenever we get exposed to extreme heat. This causes our temperature to go up to the point that it triggers brain damage, organ failure, and even death. Heatstroke can occur when we aren’t sweating enough to cool our body down. The combination of excessive physical activity with high temperatures can lead to this condition. Among the symptoms that may appear include rapid heart rate, hallucinations, rapid or shallow breathing, and even loss of consciousness.

Fortunately, there are several home remedies that may help you deal with heat exhaustion. Here are a few to try out:

Have some watermelon

Since you need to make your body’s high temperature go down, one remedy that you can try is to have some watermelon. This fruit contains up to 70% water, along with nutrients such as potassium, vitamin C, as well as beta-carotene. If you don’t fancy eating it, you can always blend it to make smoothies.

Avoid stimulants

When you are trying to combat heat exhaustion, it would be better if you avoid drinking stimulants such as coffee and alcohol. These two beverages are known to cause dehydration which can exacerbate your condition.

Drink coconut water

Coconut is considered to be a magic fruit what with its numerous health benefits that it contains. The water inside of it is actually quite potent in helping treat heat exhaustion by replenishing the fluids in our body. Aside from helping you cool down, coconut is also packed with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes that can support your body in getting rid of toxins. If you can, have some green coconut cut open and use a straw to drink its water. The flesh of this fruit is also healthy too.
