Alters skin’s pH

The pH levels of your skin refers to its alkalinity or acidity that ranges from 0 to 14 with 0 being the stingiest compared to lemon juice and 14 being the highest alkaline level which is similar to that of bleach. The thing is, our skin is not neutral meaning that it is around 4.2 or 5.5 which means that you are leaning towards acidic. Washing your face once can help regulate your skin’s pH balance but only for a few hours. However, if you wash it several times in a day, you are highly likely to be drying it out.

Prevents hydration

Most people are not aware that their skin’s top layer is actually oil based which is why water tends to fall down in rivulets on our body. This only shows that your skin is protected by oil which is needed for hydration. But when you wash your face all the time, you are actually stripping your skin of its protection hence your skin becomes prone to dryness. Unfortunately, we are barely aware of this which is why many of us end up with dry and acne prone skin.

Trigger irritation

What else can washing your face do to you? Well, for one thing it can leave your skin quite irritated. Cleansing it all the time not only strips your skin of its natural oils, but it can leave chemical residues on your skin that can actually poke holes on your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. And because of this, your skin’s ability to retain moisture is compromised, leaving your skin prone to dryness and irritation.

Upsets microflora

We all know that gut health plays a role in our overall health thanks to the perfect balance between good and bad bacteria. The same thing happens on your skin too. what you’ll find on your skin is referred to as microflora or microbiome which is the one responsible for giving you that natural glow on your skin. And just like with your gut health, when the balance gets disrupted, you are likely to experience breakouts such as acne, whiteheads, and blackheads even.
