Lemon is a popular citrus fruit that has undeniable usefulness aside from being a great addition to your tasty meal. But after extracting its juice which is basically what most dishes and beverages require, many people tend to throw away the peel. Don’t be one of them because you haven’t the slightest idea what you’re scrapping. In fact, you are actually throwing away the part of the lemon that has the most use.

In the kitchen, the zest from lemon peels are used to make some common dishes in order to achieve the complete sweet and savory taste. Lemon peels can also be made into lemon pepper which can be used as a surprisingly appealing seasoning to fish and chicken dishes. It can also be made into tasty treats such as lemon peel candies and lemon ice cubes.

  • Reduces Oxidative Stress. Because of the lemon peels’ citrus bioflavonoids content, it becomes a powerful agent for reducing toxic elements in the body that cause oxidative stress.
  • Lowers Cancer Risk. It is also known to be effective in removing carcinogenic elements that cause the dreaded cancers because it has anti-microbial capacities that help ward off germs.
  • Brightens Skin. When used as a brightening scrub, lemon peel can give you a healthy and glowing skin that can be considered a healthy white.
  • Cures Motion Sickness. The peel of lemons and other citrus fruits help ease nausea caused by motion sickness.
  • Used as Nail Whitener. Lemon peel can also be used to whiten darkening nails due to excessive polishing.
  • Lightens Age Spots. Dark spots and freckles that occur when a person reaches a certain age can be avoided using lemon peels. Simply apply the peel on the affected area and leave on for one hour. Be careful not to get too much sun when doing this though as it may reverse the effects of the peel and may even make the spots worse.
  • Used as a Skin Toner. Lemon peels can be applied directly to the face to serve as an affordable and natural skin toner. Simply rub it on your face lightly, avoiding the eye area. Rinse your face afterwards.
  • Used as an Anti-Acne Agent. Acne is a common complaint for teenagers who are just entering their puberty years. The juice from this fruit is considered a natural astringent that help fight acne.
  • Used as a Foot Soak. Boiled lemon peel is great foot soak when combined with other powerful ingredients like almond or cow milk and olive oil as it maintains the natural moisture of the feet and softens the usual thick-and-hard skin down there.
  • Used to Soften Dry Elbows. Juice from lemons combined with a little bit of baking soda can help ease the cracking and dry skin in the elbows. First, sprinkle baking soda atop a lemon sliced in half. Then, place your elbow on top of the lemon twist it. Do it in a way similar to when you’re actually juicing the fruit.
