Just like what it’s called pretty much reveals, oat milk comes from oats — yup, the ones you boil in water in order to have the perfect bowl of breakfast food that is loaded with fiber, good carbohydrates and other nutrients.

And just like oatmeal, oat milk is perfect for jumpstarting your day. You can consume it ice-cold or piping-hot. You can use it for making your favorite cup of java rich. It’s the perfect thing to pour onto your breakfast cereals. And by the way, oat milk can also be used for cooking, especially for whipping up vegetarian or non-dairy types of treats.

Each time, you can rush to the nearest supermarket to grab a carton of oat milk. Or you can simply make it with your own two hands in the comfort of your kitchen. Here’s the simple recipe for making 1 liter of homemade oat milk:

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of oats (rolled)

4 cups of distilled water

4 tablespoons of maple syrup

Directions:

-In a blender, combine rolled oats, distilled water and maple syrup.

-Blend on high for 2 to 3 minutes or until the mixture looks very smooth.

-Fold a large piece of clean cheesecloth into four, place on top of a pitcher and press down in the middle.

-Secure in place with a rubber band.

-Carefully pour the mixture into the pitcher.

However, it’s a lot cheaper! Thanks to homemade oat milk, not only are you avoiding fat and cholesterol, but also stretching your shopping budget.
