The Beauty In The Strawberry

Strawberries are versatile fruit and considered as one of the best, all-natural do-it-yourself beauty ingredients. Despite strawberry’s remarkable and delicious taste, you cannot discount its many health benefits it offers.

Strawberries are rich in antioxidant ellagic acid that increases skin’s elasticity as well as retains skin’s youth and freshness. They are good source of B vitamin, biotin, essential nutrients for healthy nails and hair. They are also packed with vitamin C, potassium, folic acid and fiber. Strawberries have Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) which are excellent in restoring dry skin as well as reversing signs of aging.

1. Teeth whitener

Despite its sweet taste, this fruit is a good teeth whitener as it contains malic acid, a tooth-whitening agent. Rub strawberry pulp on teeth to gently clean and remove stains.

Another way to whiten your teeth with strawberries is to crush a strawberry and mix it with ½ teaspoon of baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture on the teeth. Leave it for 5 minutes and brush with a regular toothpaste to remove the berry mix and rinse. Do this once a week as overdoing it can damage the enamel.

2. Skin exfoliator

With strawberry’s natural exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acid, it prevents skin aging and diminish the onset of acne. You can make your own natural strawberry toner. Use strawberry’s juice extract and mix this with rose water. Apply this using a cotton ball on the entire face before going to bed. This is great for every skin type. Keep it refrigerated. This toner will remain fresh for ten days.

3. Acne treatment

Strawberries powerhouse nutrients –Vitamin C, AHA, salicylic acid and flavonoids can help in treating acne. To combat acne, mash up 7 to 8 berries and mix one tablespoon of milk before applying the mixture evenly on your face. Leave it for 10 to 12 minutes then rinse. Repeat twice a week until the problem spots are resolved. This tightens the pores and prevents breakouts.

To achieve smooth skin, mash 10 to 12 pieces of strawberries with a teaspoon each of sugar and olive oil. Apply this to your body in a circular motion until the skin is polished. Rinse afterwards. Notice not only how smooth your skin is but also the great smell it leaves on your skin.

5. Anti-aging face mask

To make a rejuvenating mask, mix a teaspoon of honey, two teaspoons cream and mashed ripe strawberries. Apply an even coat of this mixture to your face and neck. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse. This mask helps renew skin and blocks damage caused by free radicals with the help of vitamin C and other antioxidants found in strawberries.

6. Foot scrub

Strawberries can also provide softness to our feet. To achieve soft and crack-free feet, mash 6 to 8 strawberries and mix it with a few drops of glycerine and grounded oats. Soak your feet in warm water for 10 minutes. Then scrub gently using the strawberry mixture to exfoliate dead cells and rough skin. Rinse with clean, cold water and moisture your feet with foot cream.

7. Hair conditioner

Our hair can also benefit from strawberries. To make your do-it-yourself conditioner, blend 7 to 8 mashed ripe strawberries and 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, pureeeing until the mix takes on a smooth, paste-like texture. Apply this mixture to your hair and scalp. Cover it a shower cap and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse your hair and shampoo as usual.

8. Eye puffiness reducer

Strawberries can do good to our eyes. They can help reduce puffiness in our eyes. Slice strawberries, place it on your eyelids, and relax for 10 minutes. Remove and moisturize.

9. UV protection

Due to strawberry’s ellagic acid, it helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Apply topically to the skin.
