Even though its name sounds really scary, an earlobe cyst is actually a non-life threatening matter. This does not mean, however, that it’s something that won’t bug you. Because it can bring about pain and discomfort, an earlobe cyst can meddle with your life. For instance, if you can sleep only on your side, having an earlobe cyst can keep you from having a good night’s sleep — we all know that sleep deprivation is bad for the health!

According to experts, an earlobe cyst forms when a sebaceous gland in your earlobe produces more sebum (oil) than usual, causing it to get trapped inside the pore where it’s supposed to exit. Dead skin cells, dirt and grime can block the pores, preventing excess sebum from escaping. This results in the formation of an earlobe cyst.

In some instances, an earlobe cyst can be due to a localized infection. An example would be getting bitten by a mosquito or any other insect on the earlobe. If it becomes infected, pus collects in the area, causing a cyst to form. As your body fights off the infection, the cyst will go away on its own. So in other words, an earlobe cyst is a temporary thing — it won’t take long before it steps out of the picture and quits bugging you.

However, sometimes an earlobe cyst can get really large and cause a lot of pain and discomfort. When such happens, a trip to the doctor’s clinic has to be done to have the problem dealt with. Otherwise, you can simply wait for the problem to get resolved naturally in a few days or weeks. But this doesn’t mean that there is nothing that you can do to make that earlobe cyst stop pestering you ASAP. Here are some of the things that you may try:

Use Moist Warm Compress

Applying moist warm compress on the earlobe cyst regularly can help bring trapped sebum or pus much closer to the surface of the skin, allowing it to be drained eventually. All you have to do is soak a cotton pad in warm water, shake off the excess and neatly place on your earlobe cyst until the water’s already at room temperature.

Rely on Turmeric Paste

Important in making all sorts of Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian dishes, turmeric is something that you may count on each time an earlobe cyst is bugging you. That’s because this golden spice possesses amazing antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. You can employ turmeric by turning it into paste — add a few drops of water to a little turmeric, mix and then apply on the problem area. Wash it off with water after 20 minutes. It’s also a good idea to liberally add turmeric to your diet to help make that earlobe cyst go away much faster.

Apply Diluted Tea Tree Oil

There are many skin problems brought about by microbes that can be remedied with tea tree oil, something that’s straight from nature and is revered for its superb antimicrobial properties. Since tea tree oil is so powerful, it is generally diluted with water to waken it a bit before being applied topically. It’s a good idea to make a cotton ball that’s large enough to cover the earlobe cyst. Soak it in diluted tea tree oil and put it over the benign growth for 5 minutes.

Count on Shine-Removing Clay Mask

Do you rely on clay mask for removing excess oils on your face and keeping your pores clog-free? Then you may also use it for zapping an earlobe cyst. On a regular basis, daub a generous amount of your favorite clay mask on the painful growth. Let it stay there for several minutes before rinsing off to give the product plenty of time to do its job.
