Most of us put more attention to our moisturizer rather than the face wash that we use. And this goes true when it comes to serum, acne treatments, anti-aging products, and even eye creams for that matter. For most of us, these products are all necessary for our beauty but when it comes to face wash, well, whatever it is that is available works for us. Unfortunately, the face wash that you are taking for granted can actually make or break our beauty routine.

The thing is, some cleansers can be stripping your skin of its natural oils which can lead to dryness and irritation. When this happens, you are bound to rely on moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated again and again. On the other hand, there are some cleansers that are too rich that they can clog the pores. So how can you choose the right cleanser for your skin? Here are a few tips to get you started.

Don’t use sulfates

Regardless of your skin type, make sure that you avoid using cleansers that contain sulfates. When you come across ingredients such as sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate, avoid them at all costs as they are synthetic ingredients that can make your skin dry. Although they make your cleanser lather well, they can actually strip your skin of its natural oils.

Oil or cream-based wash

For those who have dry skin, you should look for a cleanser that will support your skin to retain more moisture such as in the case of oil or cream-based wash. It would be a good idea to look for cleansers that have hydrating properties such as hyaluronic acid because it helps draw water from the air so that they will be locked on your skin to keep it nourished and moisturized. Although getting more foam to your cleanser looks good, they can easily strip your skin of its natural oils.

Gentle cleansers

Dry to sensitive skin should opt for gentle cleansers that are cream, milk, or lotion based since they can help keep your skin hydrated. If your skin is too sensitive, even foam washes can irritate the skin. Dermatologists recommend that you go for micellar water as your primary cleanser because this won’t require any rinsing thus preventing further dryness.

Stronger gels

If you notice that your skin feels and even looks greasy even after washing, you are probably in need of stronger foaming or gel cleansers. Stronger gels will help remove all the impurities from your skin without clogging your pores. Just make sure that you stay away from cleansers that have harsh ingredients to avoid making your skin drier.

Non-irritating cleansers

Sensitive skinned individuals will find that using any skin cleanser that you come across can irritate your skin further. The best way to condition your skin is by choosing a cream cleanser that is non-lathery and should have some mild plant oils like jojoba, orange oil, or even jojoba as they can help calm your irritated skin. A fragrance-free cleanser that contains glycerin is also another option to consider as it helps keep your skin moisturized too.

Medicated cleansers

If you are prone to acne breakouts, then using a medicated cleanser can help you out. This type of cleanser contains lipo hydroxy acid as well as salicylic acid that can fight off any excess oil that your ski is producing while getting rid of dirt and other impurities that are causing your skin to become inflamed.
