Health is defined as a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity, as per the World Health Organization (WHO). This means that aside from physical health, mental health is also an important factor when it comes to a person’s overall well-being.

Stress is one of the pyschological challenges to a person. According to Healthline, it can be caused by health issues, relationships, emotional problems, life changes, finance, social issues, occupation, environment, and traumatic events. As per the American Psychological Association (APA), about 55 percent of people reports that health stands as the lead cause of stress, which is similar to those who report that the health problems of family members are causing them stress.

While the relief of stress is not the primary priority in Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, it is still part of mental and psychosocial health, which are parts of a human’s totality.

According to Web MD, a person can learn ways to handle stress. As per the publication, one should be able to determine the root cause of the stress, find ways to decrease the amount of stress in his life, and learn healthy ways to alleviate stress and decrease its perilous effects to health.

It is important to determine the root cause of stress to a person, even though the reason why a person feels stressed is cloudy at times. Since every person has his own way of coping with stress, being able to track the stress may also help. This involves writing down the stressor, something that makes him stressed, how he reacted, and what he did to overcome it. This way, a person will be able to determine what causes the stress and how much stress was felt. As the interventions were already listed on the notebook, the person may review them at times, so as to equip himself with solutions before a new stress comes.

Diversional activities are also done by people to counter stress. This way, they tend to forget their problems, as well as negative thoughts. According to Recreation Therapy, diversional therapy involves the organization, design, coordination, and implementation of client-based leisure based activity programs. As per the publication, the objective of the activities is to enhance the quality of life through development of support of the person’s physical, social, spiritual, emotional, and psychological well-being. This involves reading books, watching television or movies, surfing the internet, and playing games. In addition, a person may mingle with his friends and/or relatives so as to boost his interpersonal status and forget his problems. Some people exercise or go to the gym, as indicated in Real Simple, exercise can regulate increased blood pressure, decreased immune system, and sleep problems.

Maintaining a positive attitude is one of the best bet when it comes o relieving stress, according to Anxiety and Depression Association of America. With replacing one’s thoughts with positive ones, a person will not be able to think about bad or negative things, which will just ruin his day and make his face ugly due to wrinkling and frowning. Having a positive attitude also involves laughing, which is the best medicine, even in times of problems and trials in life. In addition, one should also be proud and happy with his blessings and achievements, instead of heavily aiming for perfection. As some people say, if one cannot achieve perfection, he can achieve excellence.
