Dark Circles

Dark circles are one of the most visible signs of tired eyes and lack of sleep. A lot of people struggle with dark circles and struggle with different products and methods on how to remove them. However, dark circles are a lot complicated than it seems. Your dark circles can be caused by genes. People that tend to have darker or olive complexions are more prone to getting dark circles in their eyes, even with a proper sleeping schedule and good skin care routine. This is due to hyperpigmentation. The skin under our eyes tend to become darker due to the excess melanin, giving it that darker hue. Besides your genes there are also several factors that can give you dark circles such as an underlying condition. There are certain health conditions that give us dark circles such as hormonal issues and sleeping problems. Most of these cannot be prevented, though with the right skin care routine, healthy diet and avoiding skin damaging habits such as smoking, not removing makeup and excessive consumption of oily food, it can lessen over time. Avoid premature aging habits to limit the appearance of dark and puffy under eye circles.

Lack of Iron

One factor that can be causing you to look tired is lack of iron in your body. Lack of iron can make the skin look dull and lifeless. This can also cause discoloration in the skin and make dark circles prominent. Iron helps produce hemoglobin in the body that distributes oxygen in the body. Without hemoglobin, your body will not get enough oxygen giving you a tired appearance even with the right amount of sleep and proper skin care regime. There are simple ways to remedy this such as drinking iron supplements and adding more red meat to your diet. Though, you have to consult your doctor if you require iron.

Allergies

Allergies can cause our skin to look puffy and tired, especially in the under eye area. It can also cause blood to accumulate under the skin of the under eye, creating dark circles. Identifying your allergens can prevent this and using an antihistamine to reduce the symptoms of allergies. Again, before taking any medication, seek professional medical consultation. Your tired appearance may be caused by a different factor and using antihistamine without allergies is ill advised.

Medication

There are certain medications that can make your skin look dry, dull and pale. There are medications such as birth control pills and blood pressure medication that can cause the blood vessels to dilate giving you tired eyes and puffy under eyes.

Sleep Disorders

You can still look tired even with the right amount of sleep. What doctors forget to tell you is that even if you get 8 to 10 hours of sleep a night, but still have poor quality of sleep; you will still look tired. Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorder, you look tired due to sleep deprivation. Some sleep medication can help you sleep. Chronic sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, narcolepsy and easily interrupted sleep cycles can have 8 hours of sleep but have a quality of sleep of someone who has slept for about two hours.

Treating under eye circles requires strong products that target that specific area such as eye creams. To reduce the dullness of the skin, you have to be hydrated, eating healthy and using the right nourishing products. Limp and lifeless hair can also contribute to your tired appearance. When this happens use a dry shampoo or tie it into a high bun.

If you tend to look tired no matter what you do, this may be a huge warning from your body that there is something wrong. Kidney and thyroid problems can give us that tired and hollow eyed look due to fluid retention. Don’t ignore your symptoms and get checked as soon as possible.
