Tomato tea

It appears that drinking tomato tea can actually help provide relief against congestion. You will need 2 cups of V8 juice, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 to 3 cloves of crushed garlic, and hot sauce. Mix the ingredients in a small pan or in a microwave. Sip the drink slowly or re-warm it if you need to make the fumes do their work. Drink and inhale the smell to help de-clog your sinuses.

Use humidifier or vaporizer

If you have a cold or the flu, you can feel dehydrated and dried out. One way to combat this is to use a humidifier or vaporizer to add more moisture in the air so you can breathe better. If your child is sick, use a cool-mist humidifier rather than the warm-mist to avoid accidental burning. Make sure that you keep your humidifier or vaporizer clean all the time to prevent molds from forming.

Apple cider vinegar

Another home remedy to clear up the congestion in your nose is apple cider vinegar. There are many ways in which you can use this remedy from drinking, gargling, inhaling, and even squirting it up your nose. If you are going to drink it, you will need 6 ounces of water, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and 2 to 4 teaspoons of honey. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and drink every 6 to 8 hours. This will help thin the mucus in your nose so you will be able to breathe better.

Rinse with neti pot

You can also rinse your nasal cavities with saline solution with the help of a neti pot. Fill the neti pot with a saline solution then pour the liquid into one nostril while your head is tilted to one side. This fills the nostril until it is drawn from the other side to clear up any blockages that may be present.

Lemon and honey tea

You can also clear up your sinuses with a bit of lemon and honey tea. Many have tried this home remedy and found it to be effective in getting rid of any congestion. The lemon can help clear up congestion while boosting your immune system. Honey soothes and relieves any discomfort you are feeling because of the congestion. Also, it has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help treat the cause of your colds or flu.
