Well, it’s about time we care because when our body becomes too acidic, we become susceptible to certain types of illnesses, plus it will take certain nutrients from our bones, such as potassium, calcium, as well as sodium, which can compromise our overall health.

With the kind of sedentary lifestyle that we are living and the diet that we are following, it is likely that we are acidic. If you are wondering how you will know if you are acidic or not, watch out for these symptoms:

  • Feeling depressed and unable to enjoy the things that you used to love.
  • Dry skin even during the warmer months
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chronic pain that isn’t caused by medical condition or injury
  • Poor digestive function which is causing you to suffer from constipation or diarrhea regularly

If you are showing signs of the symptoms mentioned above, it is a good idea to check your pH levels. You can test yourself with pH test strips that will require your urine or saliva. If the reading shows lower than 6.5, then you are acidic, any lower means that you are suffering from acidosis which you will need a doctor to help you with. On the other hand, if the numbers are closer to 6.5, there are steps that can help you get back to a more balanced pH levels. Here are a few that you should take advantage of.

Avoid consuming too much sugar

Our sweet tooth needs to take a back seat especially when you tend to satisfy it with sugary drinks, or with refined sugar. A better option would be to sweeten your drink or your meal with raw and organic honey, or coconut crystals instead.

Reduce your coffee consumption

Another tip on how to reduce the acidity in your body is to lessen your coffee consumption. If you are nearing acidosis, it is best that you cut back on drinking coffee. You can switch to herbal teas since they are healthier and are rich in antioxidants too.

Drink more filtered water

It would be helpful if you drink more water with lemon in the morning to help flush excess acid in your system.
