Sebaceous glands in the scalp produce oils that help make those hair strands of yours stronger and shinier. It can be a real problem, however, if those glands secrete more oils than necessary. Just a few hours after taking a shower or bath, it’s not unlikely for your tresses to look like they have never been washed.
There are different reasons why oily hair happens. It can be due to stress, hormonal fluctuations or plainly because of the genes you have. Nowadays, many companies offer an assortment of products exclusive for individuals with oily hair. Before you try any one of these pricey solutions, you might want to try doing some of the tips listed below.
Tip #1: Wash your hair daily.
Perhaps the easiest way to save your mane from being limp and greasy is by shampooing on a daily basis.
Tip #2: Use shampoo designed for oily hair.
Using shampoo that is formulated for oily hair is the best way to remove those excess oils as well as delay the production of more of them. Before placing a shampoo bottle in your shopping cart, check that the label says “for oily hair”.
Tip #3: Thoroughly rinse off shampoo.
It’s a bad idea to leave any traces of shampoo or any other hair cleaning solution behind. This will only prompt the sebaceous glands to produce more oils in their attempt to remove chemical buildup and protect the hair.
Tip #4: Use a homemade oil-removing shampoo.
Add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel and a tablespoon of freshly-squeezed lemon juice to your favorite shampoo. Clean your hair with this to remove excess oils on the scalp and hair strands, as well as to nourish the hair follicles.

Pour some apple cider vinegar, lemon juice or beer on your scalp and hair if you’re not happy with the result you get from shampooing. After a few seconds, rinse off with water to get rid of the stickiness and smell.
Tip #9: Apply egg yolks to wet hair.
After rinsing off your shampoo, massage a couple of egg yolks with a few drops of lemon juice on your scalp and hair. Rinse thoroughly with water afterwards.
