Most of us start our day with a cup of coffee to wake us up. Coffee contains caffeine gives us the boost that we need in the morning or during the afternoon slump, but there is more to coffee than being a daily pick-me-up beverage. As a matter of fact, coffee is now being used in the beauty industry much to the surprise of many.

The caffeine in your coffee contains antioxidants that have been found to fight off free radicals, especially in your clogged pores. Drinking coffee can also contribute to the antioxidants in your system too internally. But what about externally?

One way to use coffee as part of your skin care routine is to prepare a face mask with this ingredient. Here are a few recipes that you might want to try out.

Aloe vera and coffee face mask

If you want to lighten up your skin by reducing the appearance of dark spots and other blemishes, this coffee face mask may help. You will need 2 tablespoons each of coffee grounds and aloe vera gel and mix them together in a small bowl. Apply it all over your face and neck then massage gently using circular strokes and allow to dry. Rinse it off once the mask dries up. The caffeine can help treat blemishes and dark spots, while aloe vera can support skin lightening.

Milk and coffee face mask

The combination of coffee and milk has been found to be effective in removing the dirt as well as dead skin cells on your skin to reveal smooth and soft new skin underneath. It can help fight off any redness or inflammation in your skin too. In this recipe, you will need half a tablespoon to a tablespoon of milk mixed with a tablespoon of instant coffee or even coffee ground. Apply the mixture on your newly cleansed face if you are using instant coffee. On the other hand, if you are going to use coffee grounds for this mask, you should let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes at least. Massage the coffee face mask on your face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse it off afterwards using cold water while giving it a massage for 1 to 2 minutes to exfoliate your skin. You can use this face mask two to three times a week.

Cinnamon and coffee face mask

In this face mask recipe, you will need to prepare 2 tablespoons of coffee powder, 2 tablespoons of raw milk, half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, a tablespoon of Multani Mitti powder, and a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Put all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix them thoroughly until you create a smooth paste. Spread the mixture on your face as well as your neck area and leave it there until it has dried. Rinse it off afterwards. Scrub your skin gently afterwards to help remove any dead skin cells that may have been left behind. Once you have dried your skin, apply moisturizer to it to help retain its softness. You can do this treatment at least once a week. What makes this an effective face mask is the Multanni Mitti which helps even out your skin tone by helping to lighten and brighten your skin.
