Those dark eye circles can make you look old, tired and ugly. This doesn’t really come as a surprise because sleep deprivation and stress are some of the most common causes of those unsightly blemishes.

However, it’s not just lack of sleep and constantly being stressed out that can leave you with dark eye circles. Those harmless yet visually unpleasant cosmetic issues may also appear even if you sleep like a baby nightly or are very good at managing life stresses.

One of the culprits behind dark eye circles is heredity. It’s possible that you came into this world with very thin skin around the eyes. This causes those bluish blood vessels in the area to show, giving the impression that your eyes are surrounded with an unflattering darker color. Hyperpigmentation (the presence of excessive dark pigments) around the eye area is another reason. Sometimes blood leaks out of blood vessels around the eyes, thus leaving you with those dark eye circles.

Although there are lots of fancy and expensive dark eye circle solutions on today’s market, there are also plenty of home remedies available. They are effective and inexpensive, allowing you to look your best without resorting to the use of products with harsh chemicals in them or shelling out a lot of cash. Here they are:

Tomato Juice

The simple application of tomato juice under the eyes can help improve the appearance of your cosmetic problem. Vitamin C in tomato juice helps zap excessive amounts of dark pigments. The mild acidity also helps remove dead skin cells. Allow tomato juice to stay under the eyes for about 10 minutes before washing off with water.

Rose Water

Another very simply solution to those unflattering dark eye circles is rose water. Simply soak a couple of cotton pads in it, lie back and place them over your eyes. It’s a good idea to do this when you feel like meditating to beautify yourself from the inside out. Applying a paste out of fresh rose petals and milk is also a wonderful solution.

Potato Juice

Grate a medium-sized potato. Transfer everything in a clean piece of cheesecloth and squeeze to obtain the juice — something that possesses mild bleaching properties. Use a cotton ball to apply potato juice on those dark eye circles. Let it sit there for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing with water thoroughly.

Almond Oil

Massaging almond oil under the eyes helps hydrate and heal dry and tired skin. Use your fingertips in applying almond oil. Do this each time before you hit the sack and leave it there to work overnight.

Chilled Tea Bags

Don’t throw away those tea bags after having your favorite brewed beverage. Allow them to chill in the refrigerator for a while, place them over your eyes and give them plenty of time to spring into action. Tea is packed with skin-repairing antioxidants and the cool temperature helps constrict those blood vessels.

Vitamin E

Regular intake of vitamin E supplement is good for the skin. Harness the beautifying benefits of vitamin E further by directly applying it on those dark eye circles. Grab a capsule and prick. Massage the oil on problem areas with your fingertips. It’s a good idea to do this before going to bed.

Cold Milk

Something as simple as applying cold milk around the eye area can help make you look your best each time. Milk contains amino acids that help repair thin and damaged skin. The cold temperature of milk also helps effectively constrict those blood vessels, making them less noticeable.

Avocado

Get a small slice of avocado and mash it with a fork. Apply the resulting paste on dark eye circles and allow it to stay there for a few minutes. Rinse off very well with water afterwards.

Cucumber Slices

Stash a cucumber in the refrigerator for several minutes until it gets cool. Cut a couple of slices and immediately place over your eyes. Allow those cucumber slices to remain there for 10 to 15 minutes. Cucumber is loaded with water that hydrates dry skin as well as vitamin C that repairs damaged skin.

Mint Leaves

Pound some mint leaves and place a few drops of tomato juice to come up with a thick paste. Apply it on trouble spots and let it stay there for a few minutes before washing off thoroughly with water.
